• Art in the Parks: The Big Paint - Whittlesey

We have just got back from the windy city... Whittlesey that is. The fourth and final Big Paint Park event happened on the 28th May in the grounds of the Manor Leisure Centre, Whittlesey. It didn't rain, like it did last week, but oh boy, was it windy.
Relying on local knowledge we pitched up on the leeward side of the Centre. We had no trouble putting up the gazeebo and we settled to have a day of painting and drawing.

But the weather had other ideas. It was one gust ahead of us. Shortly after we'd got into the work, around ten people present, the wind veered around, about ninety degrees (my geographically minded friend advised) and we were in the blows, blasts and gusts of the Whittlesey weather.
But, the folk from Whittlesey are tough and once we had devised a way of battening things down, the organiser having forgotten to take the hammer and nails, they settled into a day producing high quality art work.

Around twenty five people turned up, many of them prepared to stay a while and use their own equipment. In general people stayed longer and were more experienced in painting and drawing than they were at the other venues.
We had a variety of finished works using charcoal, water colour, pastels and inks.
Thanks to David Lewis, Jeni Cairns and Norman and Margaret Ringham for facilitating the workshop for us.

The workshop in Whittlesey was the last in this series. For what happens next see details of the exhibitions
